About the artist
Maria Waag, an artist and illustrator living and working across Oslo and Milan, is inspired by nature. She’s fascinated by our rich but declining biodiversity and is drawn to look for beauty in usual species we may take for granted, familiar ones we already love, or shed light on unusual ones. She uses her competence as a biologist and scuba diver when working on a piece, and her process often involves immersive study, and building a relationship somehow with what she depicts. She hopes to inspire a love for nature.
Main techniques are watercolor painting and dry pastel drawings before digitalisation for print.
